Morning Mercies

Inspiration for Morning Mercies:

This is a piece I hold close to my heart as it is based off some of my favorite verses in Lamentations. Often translated as "mercies" in Lamentations, the Hebrew word chesed does not have a translation that can fully capture the awesome lovingkindness that God has for each of us.

In Judaism, we begin the day saying the words of the Modeh Ani -- "I thank you, living and eternal King, for You have mercifully restored my soul within me; Your faithfulness is great." No matter what I did yesterday, today is another gift of life from God -- another opportunity for me to live and to shine light in this world. This verse fills me with the assurance that my Heavenly Father loves me and believes in me, and has restored life within me for a new day of possibilities. What will I do with that today?
